Everytown Law Announces Longtime Gun Safety Attorney Jonathan Lowy to Serve as Special Litigation Advisor

4.13.2023

New York – Everytown Law, the largest group of litigators in the country dedicated to advancing gun violence prevention in the courts, today announced that Jonathan Lowy has been retained as Special Litigation Advisor. Lowy has 25 years of experience taking on the gun industry in court, successfully litigating a broad range of impactful cases on behalf of government entities, victims and survivors of gun violence. His work with Everytown Law will include close collaboration in identifying new litigation opportunities, collaborating on legal strategy, advising government and private attorneys working on gun safety lawsuits, and working alongside Everytown Law as it continues to grow its work holding the gun industry accountable in court.

“As Everytown Law continues to expand our wide-ranging work in the courts to hold reckless actors in the gun industry accountable, we look forward to benefiting from Jon’s legal insights and nationwide network built up over decades of litigating to advance gun safety,” said Eric Tirschwell, Executive Director for Everytown Law. “His work has been foundational to the gun violence prevention movement and we are thrilled he has joined our team as Special Litigation Advisor.”

“Everytown Law is at the forefront of gun safety litigation and I’m looking forward to helping the team continue to grow its reach and impact,” said Jonathan Lowy, Special Litigation Advisor to Everytown Law. “This role will build on my 25 years of experience taking on the gun industry and setting important precedent for gun safety law in courts across the country.”

Lowy is currently serving as president of Global Action Against Gun Violence (“GAGV”), a group he founded following over two decades at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, much of it as Chief Counsel and Vice President, Legal. His work at GAGV will continue alongside his work with Everytown Law.

Everytown Law is at the forefront of gun violence prevention litigation – representing survivors and cities seeking to hold the gun industry accountable, defending gun safety laws against Second Amendment challenges, and seeking enforcement of gun safety laws. This work includes representing survivors in litigation arising out of last year’s mass shootings in Highland Park and Uvalde. Earlier this year, Everytown Law announced important settlements in two lawsuits – one against a Kansas City area gun store and the other against one of the largest online sellers of ammunition – under which the defendants are required to enforce important and impactful gun safety practices to prevent future shootings and illegal sales.

Everytown Law is the litigation arm of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, which is part of Everytown for Gun Safety.
