      Summary: Johnson v. Lyon is a challenge to a rule promulgated by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services requiring foster parents to store firearms in a responsible manner.

      Everytown filed an amicus brief in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan in support of Michigan’s law. The brief explains that Michigan’s storage requirement does not impinge upon a Second Amendment right because it is consistent with a centuries-old tradition of regulating the storage of firearms and ammunition and the accessibility of firearms to children. Even if the law did implicate the Second Amendment, Everytown argues that it should still survive judicial scrutiny because it is substantially related to a significant government interest.
