Gun Trafficking
It is estimated that criminals get their hands on tens of thousands of guns every year through illegal trafficking and straw purchasing. States with weak gun laws often serve as suppliers of guns to states with stronger gun laws. Reckless gun stores and manufacturers too often know of or close their eyes to obvious trafficking and straw purchasing, but are almost never criminally prosecuted. Civil lawsuits can focus enforcement and accountability upstream to the sources where firearm trafficking begins: gun manufacturers, distributors, and dealers.
